Object Name Petition
Scope & Content This collection consists of items pertaining to the Oglethorpe Light Infantry of Savannah. The first item is a petition to Capt. John N. Lewis from members of the troop, 1856, requesting Lewis' resignation as Captain of the Corps. It is signed by the members. The second item is an undated list of names of members; Francis S. Bartow is listed as the captain. Also included in the collection are clippings about the Oglethorpe Light Infantry, one from the Savannah Morning News, 1876, observing the 15th Anniversary of the 1st Battle of Manassas (where Capt. Bartow was killed); one from an unidentified newspaper, 1881, regarding the 25th anniversary of the Oglethorpe Light Infantry and containing a list of the company members involved in the 1st Battle of Manassas; and a clipping form the Savannah Morning News, 1900, giving a history of the Oglethorpe Light Infantry.
