Correspondence subjects include barn owls, bird banding, birds of the Okefenokee, bird permits, a checklist of Georgia birds, Elliptio Spinosus (the spiny mussel discovered by Tomkins), Hilton Head Island, Longwood Gardens, Ornithologie Abregee de la France, and Fort Pulaski.
The manuscript portion of this collection includes manuscripts and notes on birds, fossils, animals, whales, shells, plants, reptiles, and other living creatures; manuscript copies of Tomkins' book, Birds of the Savannah River Delta; book review; the Cockspur Island Lighthouse; and the history of Quarantine Station.
The photographs include images of birds, crustaceans, insects, reptiles, fish, snakes, animals, people, plants, skeletons, fossils, animal tracks, scenes and landscapes, photographs of African American grave markers in Sunbury, Georgia (these may be sculptures by Cyrus Bowen), Georgia Historical Society, Savannah, and other southern cities.
